„Workin‘ 9 to 5

What a way to make a livin

Barely gettin‘ by

It‘s all takin‘ and no givin‘ “

(chorus from Dolly Parton‘s hit song „9 to 5,“ 1980)

As early as 1980, Dolly Parton‘s country-pop hit „9 to 5“ addressed the hardships of being an ordinary employee in an open-plan office. The song and the accompanying video seem rather shallow and striking. Still from modern society‘s point of view, the lyrics are more likely to be read as an anticapitalist poem. In today’s age of capitalism you will solely find prosperous, employee-based office jobs at enterprises which own or produce data and require employees to create added value in or with said information. This data, when broken down, consisting of 0‘s and 1‘s is the core of Wanker’s body of work “BINARY OFFICE CHAIR”
